The following information will help you have an enjoyable and hassle-free stay at Players.
1. BEFORE YOU LEAVE
PLAYERS has a fully equipped kitchen and supplies all basic condiments (salt, sugar, tea, coffee, spices, herbs) and cleaning needs. Breakfast ingredients (cereals, toast, spreads, etc.) are provided but other meals are your responsibility so you'll need to bring your own banquets. Supplies are available on the mountain, but they can be erratic and usually expensive. All beds have doonas and pillows. There is no need to bring linen as Players now offers a complete linen service which includes a flat and fitted sheet, pillow case cover and a towel.
Your car's condition is important, make sure the engine is clean, battery and ignition system are in good condition, and there is Anti-freeze in the radiator. RACV services are available but it is usually a cold wait, and joining the RACV on the mountain is now no longer a cheap option! There is no petrol on the mountain so make sure you have enough to get up and down before you leave Omeo or Bright.
During the ski season you must carry chains!!!. You will almost certainly have to fit them, so try them before you leave home. They must be tight and have only two or three spare links at the ends. Diamond pattern chains are recommended for their superior road holding compared with the ladder style. We recommend stopping at Hoys in Harrietville to hire your chains as they will fit your chains for free on the mountain road with their mobile service. Whilst at Hoys you may purchase your resort entry tickets.
We suggest you ring the Hotham Road Report on 0357 593 531 prior to departure and check the road conditions. If the Harrietville Road is closed or likely to close you must go via Omeo.
2. CONTACT AT PLAYERS
You can be contacted at Players by phone on 03 5759 3564.
3. EN ROUTE
Access from Melbourne is via the Hume Highway, Bright and Harrietville (367km approx. 4½ - 5 hours) or the Princes Highway, Sale, Bairnsdale and Omeo (468kn, 5½ - 6 hours).
4. ARRIVING AT HOTHAM
If arriving via Harrietville proceed through the village to Bus stop 7 (In front of Jack Frost). Use the loading zone to unload your gear and transfer it to Players. A sled is usually available on the front entrance landing to make the transfer of gear easier. There is also a luggage delivery service by skidoo available from Jack Frost at bus stop 7.
PLAYERS is situated approx. 40m from the road (refer to map) so proceed up the driveway of Ranges Apartments and around to the rear of the lodge, across the access path to Players.
Your car must be subsequently parked along the road or in a car park (Slatey Cutting etc.) as directed by the signs or attendants. A minibus service operates along the road to and from the car park.
5. ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORT
Buses run regularly to Hotham from Melbourne and Albury during the season. Contact Trekset Tours on 1800 659 009 for details of Schedules. Security parking is also available at Harrietville with subsequent transfer to Hotham by bus, contact Hoys on 0357 592589 or 0357 592 658 for details.
6. AT PLAYERS
Check-in time is 3:00 pm
and check-out time is 10.00 am.
If you want to arrive early, we suggest leave you notify the manager the day before, to inform him of your early arrival and they will make arrangements for you to store your luggage in a temporary location.
On arrival check the notice board in the
entry to find your bedroom allocation. Make yourself known to the manager
and stow your gear. All bedrooms are upstairs. Familiarise yourselves with the
fire equipment and exits.
Skis and poles should be left in the
racks in the entry and wet gear in the drying room. No shoes to be worn
throughout Players.
Food should be placed in your cupboards, where each cupboard is numbered in the same sequence as the rooms. All refrigerated food and drinks can be placed in the cool room opposite the public phone. The kitchen is fully equipped including cooktops, microwave, indoor BBQ grill, ovens, all utensils and ample crockery, cutlery and glassware.
You are responsible for cleaning your bedroom and bathroom and for cleaning up the kitchen/dining areas after your meals. An industrial dishwasher is provided and it is your responsibility to wash and pack away the dishes after use. Please clean your dishes, pots and pans immediately so that they are available for others to use.
There is a washing machine and dryer in the laundry, which is situated in the basement. This is a free service provided by the Players. Players also has a sauna located in this area.
Players is non-smoking. For safety reasons and the comfort of all guests, smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.
Players takes no responsibility lost or stolen property.
7. ON THE SNOW
The shuttle bus service will pick you up from Jack Frost (stop 7) and take you through the Village, or the Big D. At both of these locations you will ski hire, ticket sales, lifts, restaurants, bars, ski school etc. Slope access can also be gained by good experienced skiers down the trail opposite Jack Frost, called Frosty Drop.
8. ON DEPARTURE
We ask you to respect all the facilities provided. Please ensure your bedroom and bathroom are thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed before you leave. If there is more than one group in your room, each group is responsible for cleaning when they leave - don't leave it to the others.
Remove all left over foodstuffs from fridges, cupboards and cool room. Do not leave unwanted food behind (The manager will kindly accept any left overs). Check the drying room for your belongings.
